The Headboard Dilemma

The Headboard Dilemma

I have made a few upholstered headboards in the past few years and choosing the perfect fabric is a hard task. Do I want a neutral color? Do I want a bright color? Do I want my fabric to have a pattern? No pattern? A neutral color headboard without a pattern is classic and will match anything and everything. If you are looking for a new headboard and are undecided on what kind you like, I would definitely chose the neutral route. However, if you are looking to step outside your comfort zone and make a statement, then this is the perfect post for you. I rounded up some of my favorite headboards with a statement color or pattern for inspiration.

Design Problem: My living room has 10 foot ceilings and a bay window on the main wall. This wall is the focal point of the room so I decided to flank the bay window with bookcases. I used 2 bookcases from Target that I already had. They are simple and get the job done, however they are short so they looked ridiculous compared to my tall window and ceiling. FYI: new and taller bookcases were not in my budget.

DIY: Princess Piggy Bank

DIY: Princess Piggy Bank

I have an obsession for fast, easy and cheap craft projects and this little piggy bank definitely fits that criteria. While searching the internet one day, I came across a piggy bank that was covered in rhinestones. I knew my daughter would love it, but it seemed a little over-the-top for my taste. So, with that inspiration, I toned down the rhinestones and created a mini tiara for little miss piggy.

DIY: Farmhouse Table Tutorial

DIY: Farmhouse Table Tutorial

Let me start out by saying I have an amazing father-in-law. He built our new dining room table and bench with his own plans. We discussed what type of table my husband and I wanted and he made it happen. We originally planned on more formal white legs with a wood top but I changed my mind at the end. I am so glad I did because I absolutely love it now.

DIY: Christmas Countdown Tutorial

DIY: Christmas Countdown Tutorial

Growing up, my family had a Christmas countdown made out of beads. Every day I made sure to move a bead until it was Christmas. I have looked everywhere for a countdown like the one we had growing up but I never found one. So I decided to take matters into my own hands and make one myself.

Look for the Good

Look for the Good

My outlook on motherhood has changed drastically from one simple goal I made 6 months ago. This goal was to sit down and write a blog post every week about an experience in motherhood with a valuable lesson I learned. I did this to document my experiences and hopefully relate to other moms in the same situations. The main thing I promised myself was to always be positive in these posts and never write anything negative about being a mom.
Every day I am looking for things to write about on my blog, but “looking for things to write about” has drastically changed my outlook on motherhood. Each day I am looking for lessons to learn from my kids. Looking for ways to connect better with my kids. Looking for ways to improve as a mom. Looking for the positive and trying to document those perfect moments I find.

The Tough Mom

The Tough Mom

Unfortunately, my sweet little daughter has some health issues. The other day I counted 8 different doctors that she sees on a regular basis. On her medical charts, the doctors describe her as “aggressively uncooperative”. She has grown to hate doctors, and she has every right to. I would hate it too.

Girls Room Gallery Wall

Girls Room Gallery Wall

My go-to when decorating big spaces are gallery walls, so, of course, I put one in my daughter’s bedroom. My goal was to not spend any money and make it personal, just like any other project I do. So first, I gathered up a bunch of frames in my house and made a layout on the floor. The large frame I actually made a few years ago from 2 separate frames and glued them together.

Put Your Phone Down

Put Your Phone Down

Just like the other billion people in this world, I love my phone. I use my phone instead of my computer, my camera, calculator, paper and pencil, bank, alarm clock, and pretty much everything else you can think of. My phone makes my life easier.

I read someone’s Facebook status a while ago and the person said she was angry watching this mom at the park who wasn’t paying attention to her kids who needed her because she was too busy looking at her phone. Honestly, I felt bad for this mom at the park. Maybe this mom was doing something really important on her phone. In my head I was defending this mom with all my might.

GUEST POST: Little Boy Nursery

GUEST POST: Little Boy Nursery

Hello Heather’s World! My name’s Jessica and I’m a stay-at-home momma to two little kiddos. My oldest is my girl, and then baby boy. When I found out I was pregnant with a boy, I was so excited to get to decorate a “boy room” for the first time. My little boy is now 19 months, but I still love his gray and yellow room! I love bargain hunting, re-purposing, and seeing what I can do with little or no money.
